How to calculate Quota Attainment
Quota attainment is the percentage of a sales target actually achieved by a rep or team in a period.
Formula
Quota attainment = amount won ÷ quota × 100SQL query
This example assumes: deals(owner_id, stage, amount, closed_at), quotas(owner_id, period_start, quota_amount). It is written in PostgreSQL syntax; date functions differ slightly in MySQL, BigQuery and SQLite, and your column names will differ from these.
SELECT q.owner_id,
COALESCE(SUM(d.amount), 0) AS won,
q.quota_amount,
COALESCE(SUM(d.amount), 0) * 100.0 / NULLIF(q.quota_amount, 0) AS attainment_pct
FROM quotas q
LEFT JOIN deals d
ON d.owner_id = q.owner_id
AND d.stage = 'won'
AND d.closed_at >= q.period_start
AND d.closed_at < q.period_start + INTERVAL '3 months'
WHERE q.period_start = DATE '2026-10-01'
GROUP BY q.owner_id, q.quota_amount
ORDER BY attainment_pct DESC;Common mistakes that make Quota Attainment wrong
- An inner join drops reps with zero closed deals, so the worst performers vanish from the list.
- Reps who joined mid-period have a pro-rated quota; comparing them with full-period reps is unfair.
- Split credit (two reps on one deal) counted twice inflates team attainment.
Ask for Quota Attainment in plain English
Instead of writing the query yourself, you can type the question. SchemaChat turns it into SQL against your connected database or uploaded file, runs it, and shows the SQL and the figures it used so you can check the answer before you share it. It does not replace your judgement about the definition: check that the query matches the formula your business uses.
