What is Median?
The median is the middle value when a set of numbers is sorted, so half the values are below it and half are above.
Median explained
With an even number of values it is the mean of the two middle ones. Because it depends on position rather than size, a few extreme values barely move it.
It is usually a better 'typical' figure than the mean for skewed data such as order values, salaries, response times and house prices.
Example
For response times of 5, 6, 7, 8 and 300 minutes the median is 7 minutes, while the mean is 65.2 minutes.
