How to calculate Marketing-Sourced Revenue Share
Marketing-sourced revenue share is the percentage of new revenue that came from deals first created by marketing activity.
Formula
Share = revenue from marketing-sourced won deals ÷ total won revenue × 100SQL query
This example assumes: deals(id, stage, amount, closed_at, origin) where origin is 'marketing', 'sales' or 'partner'. It is written in PostgreSQL syntax; date functions differ slightly in MySQL, BigQuery and SQLite, and your column names will differ from these.
SELECT DATE_TRUNC('quarter', closed_at) AS quarter,
SUM(amount) FILTER (WHERE origin = 'marketing') * 100.0
/ NULLIF(SUM(amount), 0) AS marketing_sourced_pct
FROM deals
WHERE stage = 'won'
GROUP BY 1
ORDER BY 1;Common mistakes that make Marketing-Sourced Revenue Share wrong
- Sourced and influenced are different: influenced counts any touch and is always larger.
- Deals with a blank origin silently fall out of the numerator; count them.
- First-touch versus last-touch credit changes the answer; state the rule.
Ask for Marketing-Sourced Revenue Share in plain English
Instead of writing the query yourself, you can type the question. SchemaChat turns it into SQL against your connected database or uploaded file, runs it, and shows the SQL and the figures it used so you can check the answer before you share it. It does not replace your judgement about the definition: check that the query matches the formula your business uses.
- What share of won revenue was marketing-sourced each quarter?
- How many won deals have no origin recorded?
